Using advanced techniques and evidence-based care, physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders. General practitioners refer more patients to physiotherapists than any other healthcare profession.
Physiotherapy helps repair damage, reduce stiffness and pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life. They are experts in movement and function, working with their patients to assist them in overcoming movement disorders. Those disorders may have been present from birth, acquired through an accident or injury, or may be the result of ageing or life-changing events.
A doctor’s referral is not required, to see a physiotherapist. Often physiotherapists, doctors, and other health professionals will work as part of a team to plan and manage treatment for a specific condition.
Why Choose Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy patients participate in a complete system of assessment and treatment, which aims at treating all of the different aspects of the condition. Physiotherapists utilise broad varying techniques, which depend on the individual’s requirements. The overall goal is to resolve symptoms, retrain altered movement patterns, and prevent recurrence. Your treatment program will take into account the nature of your condition and your own personal commitments to provide you with the best possible outcome.
Your first visit for any new problem will be a comprehensive consultation. We cater for extra time, if needed, to fully assess your condition and ensure you receive the most effective treatment possible. If you haven’t seen a Physiotherapist at our Practice before, it would be appreciated that you arrive ten minutes prior to your appointment to fill in a new patient form.
Each comprehensive consultation consists of a detailed discussion regarding your symptoms, assessment of different movements (which may require some degree of undressing), and some specific tests. Once a diagnosis has been reached, treatment options will be discussed and carried out – keep in mind that you are a key player in the management of your condition.
Standard follow-up appointments with your physiotherapist include discussion on progress since the previous appointment and reassessment of problematic movements or positions before treatment continues.
At Tyack Health the physiotherapists are here to assist in complete recovery from your musculo-skeletal condition. We believe that your care continues after you have left your appointment – you are a valued patient and will continue to be nurtured back to full health. This is why follow up appointments are sometimes recommended – so that the job isn’t left half-done!
As a patient of Tyack Health Centre’s Physiotherapy Department, you are invited to phone and speak directly with your practitioner concerning exacerbation's of pain, difficulty with exercises and any other treatment-related questions you may have. If the physiotherapist is unable to attend your call, all efforts will be made to contact you as soon as possible.
We understand that life is unpredictable and you may not always be able to make your scheduled appointment. If you can’t make an appointment please contact our reception at least 24 hours prior to cancel or arrange for another time. Missed appointments and appointments cancelled without 24 hours notice may be charged the full consultation fee.
